Sergeant Joseph D. Bock was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. While on patrol Sgt. Bock became involved in a car pursuit. Sgt. Bock pursued the suspect on South Staples to the city limits.

There the suspect vehicle stopped. While Sgt. Bock attempted to apprehend the suspect he was disarmed and killed.

The suspect was later found to be a parole violator. The suspect was apprehended, convicted and is currently on death row.
